Diatatus

Diatatus is a pocket of air within a rocky crust that cradles life in all forms. This life lives on the inside walls of a great sphere. Mountains, forests, oceans, and more can be found here. At the very center of the sky, celestials dance and influance life.

In the past, Diatatus was where Gods gathered to choose subjects. These Gods took on varied forms to reveal themselves to humans, based on local fauna and geography. All of the Gods have since died out, due to a mysterious event that came after the last Great Famine. With the death of the Gods, a new species has arrisen to coexist with humans, the Fairies.

Cosmology

A diagram labeled 'Diatatus' showing a rocky shell surrounding a green and blue landmass. The outer shell is labeled 'barrier crust' and has a cutaway showing areas labelled as 'livable land' and 'water-filled oceans'. Inside of the shell are several oribiting objects. The 'star' and 'moons' are labeled as 'celestial gods', while a purple area is labeled 'divine rip'. More line drawings reveal the divine rip as a wormhole, and also shows the oribits of the celestial gods.

  • Outer Gods and Divine Matter: Divine matter is any mass made of pure, or nearly pure, magic. This substance makes up the bulk of the space outside of Diatatus. Gods are formed in this vast sea of magic. Any god that is not found on Diatatus is known as an Outer God.
  • Barrier Crust: A dense bedrock that surrounds Diatatus. Divine matter is unable to penetrate it.
  • Land and Oceans: Gravity pulls towards the outside of the sphere, allowing for water to pool into oceans. Land is generally capable of nurturing life, with very few areas being unable to support humans.
  • Celestial Gods: Gods that have entered Diatatus but do not interact directly with humans or fairies. These gods take the place of a star and five moons.
  • Divine Rip: A wormhole that connects the center of Diatatus to the outer gods.
  • Sky

A landscape painting showing the rolling fields common of many inner-continental countries. Also shown is the natural force known as the Divine Rip.

    ► History

    Pre-Gods

Humans on Diatatus lived in a precarious niche. Harsh deserts, flat lands, high winds, and dangerous animals lurked on every part of the world. The humans at the time were only able to survive in small towns. These towns comprised of many tiered, walled structures. Nearly all ruins from this era show signs of this technique. Some sources report this to be a leftover from when there was only one, more basal God.

    Gods' Era

It was natural, when the Gods appeared, for humans to want to follow them.

In records, the Gods appear suddenly and without warning. They were accepted as though they had always been there. Each God took the form of an animal, their great bodies transforming into a shape that would not hurt their followers to witness. Wolves, birds, beetles; each became a symbol of their Gods' domain.

A green skinned woman with a bird's head and lower body. The crest on her head is made of many small wings, and she has two long purple tail feathers. She is wearing a simple yellow robe with purple and gold details. To the side are 3 doodles showing facial expressions.

An example of a God. These forms seem to be chosen on a whim, based on the Gods personal preference.

Just as soon as the Gods appeared, the very soil changed. Their powers and presence had changed the lands to be more habitable to their new followers. Humans spread out across Diatatus, their population exploded, and they entered a renaissance.

Each God claimed a portion of the world and created great cities to house their closest followers. Now the basal cities had one more layer, in the very center. This layer, surrounded by royalty, was the home of their God.

Near the end of this era, a Great Famine roared across Diatatus. Many of the great cities fell to the conditions. This famine lasted until the beginning of the next era.

    Human Population Maximum: 500 million
